Indian Valley School District is
located in Tuscarawas County in east central Ohio,
approximately 75 miles south of the city of Cleveland
and 95 miles east of Columbus. The District's territory
encompasses all of the territory of the Villages of
Barnhill, Gnadenhutten, Midvale, Port Washington,
Roswell and Tuscarawas and Washington Township, and
portions of the City of New Philadelphia, the Village of
Newcomerstown and the Townships of Clay, Goshen,
Jefferson, Mill. Perry, Rush, Salem, Union, Warren and
Warwick. The District's population is approximately
10,100. Its area is approximately 119 square miles of
that 62.49% is residential, 15.28% is
commercial/industrial, .10% public utility and 22.13%
agriculture. Approximately 6.21% of the District's area
is used for governmental and other tax-exempt purposes.
Within
commuting distance are several public and private
two-year and four-year colleges and universities,
providing a wide range of educational facilities and
opportunities. These include the university of Akron, a
branch of Ashland University, the Tuscarawas campus of
Kent State University, Malone College, Muskingum
College, a branch of Ohio University, Stark Technical
College, Walsh University and the College of Wooster.
Most District residents work outside the District. The
following employers have the largest work force within
the County: Union Hospital, Belden Brick Company,
Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., JLG Industries/Gradall,
Bristol-Myers/Zimmer Patient, Barmet Industries, Lauren
Mfg. Company, Arizona Chemical, Genie Company, Marlite
Corporation and Allied Machine & Engineering.
Indian Valley School District enjoys state testing
scores which equates to an Ohio school district rating
of 25(excellent) placing Indian Valley School District
in the top 26 percentile in Ohio. Indian Valley High School's 98.4% graduation rate
exceeds the statewide average and of those graduating
70% go on to higher education. |
